What is Lymphedema?

  • A chronic problem of the lymph nodes
  • Blockage in the lymphatic system prevents the lymph fluid from draining, causing swelling or edema
  • The fluid can become a hard fibrosis
  • There is no cure for lymphedema
  • A Certified Lymphedema Therapist or CLT can diagnose the problem and treat the swelling

    • Why Does Lymphedema Occur?

  • Can be caused by cancer, surgery, infection, injury or other trauma
  • Obesity can compress the lymph node pathways, causing blockage
  • Some hereditary factors cause slow lymph flow
  • There is no age limit to lymphedema problems
